A good photographer will balance almost any color but there are some limits, like fluorescent tones for example so if in doubt always use moderation.  Ultimately you will probably end up with a variety of different dresses appropriate for each of the locations you will select, but also basically in-keeping with your skin tones and light conditions. 

Finally, you will need to wear colors you feel a million dollars wearing.  If you feel good, you will also look good!

A patterned green dress in a foliage background will be a definite no-no for example.  As a rule for outdoor locations, vibrant solid colors are good, for inside locations the reverse is true where elegant, neutral, colors are best.
